Orbost currently sits second on the Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant ladder after easily accounting for Bairnsdale Golf at home in round three, 84-42.
Orbost gained 12 of the 14 points on offer, losing only the one rink (20-22).
The biggest winners were Geoff Lynn, Gwen Hatcher, Lyn O’Brien and Trevor Perry, who dominated, 37-8 victors.
They were well-supported by Beryl Dyce, Bruce Kneebone, Ron Hatcher and Maurice Frank, impressive 27-12 victors.
In weekend pennant, the division one side hit the road, their trip to take on Bairnsdale 3 fruitless, going down 45-68, unable to secure a rink.
They will host Lakes Entrance 3 this weekend, while in division four the Green Machine will tackle Bairnsdale 4 at the Bairnsdale Bowling Club.
CLUB 100 UP CHAMPIONSHIPS
The finals of the club’s men’s and ladies’ 100 up championships were played last Thursday.
In the ladies’ competition, the final was held in the morning between Jan Lynn and Jenny Gurney and it proved to be a close and entertaining game with Gurney the eventual winner 104-96.
In the men’s competition, the last knockout rounds were played on Thursday morning with Ron Hatcher and Ralph Harding going on to play against each other in an afternoon final.
Harding, one of the club’s newer bowlers, performed well during the knockout rounds to make it through to the final, but lost to a very experienced bowler, Hatcher winning the game 102-70.
SOCIAL BOWLS
As members had to decide between watching the men’s 100 up final or playing social bowls, there was a lower than usual number of bowlers for Thursday’s social action.
However, the numbers were boosted slightly by visitors, Roy and Julie, who hail from South Australia, who are staying in the district for a while.
Two games of eight ends were played with the winning team Frank (skip), Trevor Hawkey and Dyce.
Sunday’s social bowls was held in what felt like hot weather after recent temperatures.
With a good number of bowlers present, despite the weather and the extra long weekend, three games of six ends were organised by the match committee with the teams playing three-bowl pairs.
The results were close by the end of the afternoon with three pairs having won two games each.
After a countback, the winning pair was declared as Karen Chenney (skip) and Hawkey.
