There was no reward for perseverance for playing in the rain for Orbost in Gippsland Bowls Region weekend pennant, going down to arch rival Lakes Entrance 3 in the local derby at home last Saturday.
The Green Machine was a 65-40 loser, despite splitting the rinks, highlighted by the rink win of Geoff Lynn, Scott Farnell, Robyn Kellow and Karen Chenney 18-15.
Bruce Kneebone, Maurice Frank, Geoff Robinson and Hayden Lancaster escaped with a 18-all tie.
This week the team, currently fifth on the ladder, hits the road heading to Lakes to take on Lakes Entrance 2.
The division four team’s match was abandoned without a single bowl being bowled. They are currently third on the ladder and will host Bruthen at home this week.
Last week in division two midweek pennant, Orbost lost its away game to Lakes Entrance 3, 62-59.
The majority of the rinks went the way of the Green Machine but not the the majority of points.
Winners included Beryl Dyce, Kneebone, Ross O’Brien, Frank (23-22) and Kellow, Jenny Gurney, Greg Rankin and Jurgen Fichtner (21-17).
After four rounds they sit in fourth place on the ladder.
CLUB SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS
The club’s men’s and ladies’ singles championships will be played on November 20
and 27.

SOCIAL ACTION
Last Thursday’s social bowls started with drills to improve pennant players’ skills going into the next round.
Organised by Karen Chenney, players gained a better idea of the things they needed to work on.
Afterwards 18 players hit the rinks for an awesome day of two-bowl triples with two games of 10 ends completed, the winners being Fichtner, Trevor Hawkey and Robinson.
There was a surprisingly good attendance on Sunday afternoon considering the cold soaking many bowlers had received the day before during the pennant matches. The only difference on Sunday was the lack of rain, but the cold, chilly wind was still blowing.
The match committee organised games of two-bowl triples consisting of two games of 10 ends.
At the conclusion of the games it was necessary to have a countback as there were two teams who had won both of their games.
Kneebone (skip), Fichtner and Ralph Harding won with 35 points, while the runners-up were Chenney (skip), Lynn and Annette Grmusa, who were close behind on 32.
The next social bowls will be this Thursday. Players to be at the club no later than 12.30pm so that teams can be formed and games started.
