The 2025 Bream Classic grand final has been won by a couple of East Gippsland’s finest anglers, Bairnsdale’s Scott Scicluna and Maffra’s Mitchell Blomquist.
The finale centred around the Gippsland Lakes, with 50 teams based in Metung over the weekend chasing optimum glory.
While the weather threw some challenges at the anglers, the fishing was still at its incredible best with some monster bags hitting the scales at both Saturday and Sunday’s weigh-ins.
But after two intense days it was Scicluna and Blomquist that emerged victorious, managing to take every opportunity on day two and land the fish that counted to take the victory with 10 bream weighing 12.215 kilograms.
In second place were Chris and Jack Allwood (11.935kgs), just 280 grams behind, while the third place combination of Tyler Bruest and Ben Hanscombe (11.935kgs), were relegated on countback after both pairs finished with
the same weight.
The Allwoods caught the biggest bag of the event on Saturday, five fish weighing a whopping 6.965 kilograms, to open up a handy lead, but they struggled for big fish on Sunday.
Scicluna and Blomquist finished strongly
on Sunday, but they showed their consistency by landing the biggest specimen of the tournament on Saturday, a magnificent 1.82
kilogram bream.
The monster movers prize went to Phil Partington, Dan and Jarvis Kent who weighed in a quality bag on day two of five bream weighing 4.220 kilograms, moving them 13 places up the leaderboard to finish in
30th position.
They also picked up the prize for the longest flathead, a thumper that went 79 centimetres.
The junior angler prize went to Dusty Treloar, while the first-ever winners of the direct casting challenge were Peter Bakaj Snr and Junior with a commanding casting performance by the senior who had two casts and two hits to annihilate the competition.
As part of the awards ceremony, Dan
Mackrell and Declan Betts were crowned the 2025 Team of the Year, while the 2025 Junior Angler of the Year and Junior Jackpot winner awards went to Jarvis Kent.
The 2025 Tinnie Challenge went to Josh Jeffrey and Connor Jackson.
Organisers and competitors agreed this was another outstanding event from the team at Vicbream Classic, now in their 20th year.
