A collaborative effort by the Orbost Neighbourhood House and the local branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) has delivered a record-breaking result for this year’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising a total of $3980.60 for the Cancer Council.
The outstanding total nearly triples last year’s fundraising result of $1420.80, driven by strong community attendance and significant local donations.
Around 90 local residents gathered for the morning, filling the local hall to capacity and prompting volunteers to set up additional tables to accommodate the crowd.
“What an incredible morning it was,” organisers said.
“Around 90 people came together to enjoy delicious food, great company, and plenty of community spirit, with extra tables needed as the hall quickly filled with attendees.”
The fundraising total received a major boost from the Orbost Opportunity Shop, which contributed a generous direct donation of $2000.
Organisers also highlighted supporting events held across the town that contributed to the final tally.
This included a parallel gathering hosted by the Orbost Regional Health Administration Team, alongside Sally-Anne, the SRV team and local residents.
The successful morning relied heavily on a network of local volunteers, home bakers and businesses who supplied goods, raffle prizes and operational support.
“The success of the event would not have been possible without the many local businesses and community members who donated raffle prizes, baked goods, supplies and their time,” the organisers said.
“Your generosity helped create a wonderful event while supporting an important cause that touches so many lives.”
Reflecting on the final donation tally, the organising committee expressed deep gratitude to everyone who played a part, whether by baking, volunteering, purchasing raffle tickets, or attending the morning.
“After such a fantastic result, we’ll have quite a challenge on our hands to beat next year’s total,” the organisers noted.
“But with the support of this wonderful community, we’re certainly willing to try.”
