A large group of local history enthusiasts stepped back in time last week for a guided town walk hosted by the Orbost Historical Society.
Held on Monday, June 29, the walk drew an excellent crowd eager to learn more about the township’s development.
Participants explored the history of various local businesses, notable vacant blocks, and the iconic 234-mile post — which historically marks the exact distance from the Melbourne G.P.O. to the Orbost Post Office.
The interactive walk proved highly collaborative, with attendees adding new local information and helping amend existing records of the town’s historical timeline.
The Orbost Historical Society extended its thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the day’s success.
For those interested in joining or learning more about local history, the society meets every Friday morning at 9.30am at the Orbost Library. New members and visitors are always welcome.
