BEMM RIVER; Tayla Hendriks tapped into some nice salmon off the beach over the weekend, while finding the going tough on the search for bream. (PS)

Anglers heading to the far east corner of the region are enjoying excellent winter action, with both local fishos and visitors reporting strong catches over the past week across the main coastal systems.

In Marlo, bream and luderick are biting well around Second Island, with sandworms and local prawns proving to be the standout baits. Salmon remain highly active near the entrance for those casting laser lures and soft plastics, while offshore fishos launching from Cape Conran are finding consistent numbers of gummy shark and flathead using bluebait, local squid, and fresh fish fillets.

Further east at Bemm River, salmon are putting on a show around the entrance, providing solid sport for those casting lures and baits into the gutters. Bream are also biting well throughout the system, showing a distinct preference for local frozen prawns and sandworms.

Down at Mallacoota, the town jetties are producing steady numbers of trevally, while the Harrison Channel is fishing well for both flathead and luderick, particularly for anglers working soft plastics through the deeper runs. For those heading further upstream, the Top Lake and river system are delivering quality bream on squid and soft-shell baits.

UPPER BEMM RIVER: Wayne Craft caught a small brown trout in the upper Bemm River system a couple of weeks ago. (PS)
MARLO: Young Parker might only be six years old but was proud as punch to land this nice salmon. (PS)
