Orbost Gas Plant has achieved a significant capacity increase and set a new daily production milestone in July. The plant has increased its average daily production by 65 per cent since May 2023.

The Orbost Gas Processing Plant has emerged as the cornerstone of Amplitude Energy’s record-breaking financial year, achieving a massive capacity increase and setting a new daily production milestone this month.

The onshore facility, which processes natural gas from the offshore Sole reservoir in the Gippsland Basin, has increased its average daily production capacity by 65 per cent since May 2023.

The plant averaged 73.2 terajoules per day (TJ/day) in the 2026 financial year (FY26) and reached a new single-day processing record of 74.7 TJ in July 2026.

This surge in production has pushed the plant’s established operational capacity above its original 68 TJ/day design nameplate to more than 70 TJ/day.

The growth follows a systematic technical overhaul of the plant’s sulphur removal system, which previously acted as a significant bottleneck.

Cleaning times and production downtime for the sulphur system fell dramatically from 390 hours in FY23 to just 128 hours in FY26, allowing operators to run the facility far more consistently near its expanded capacity.

These local efficiency gains at Orbost were the primary driver behind Amplitude Energy’s record FY26 financial performance.

The company reported a new record sales revenue of $285.8 million – a seven per cent increase from the previous year, supported by the steady volume of gas processed at Orbost and sold to major Australian utilities.

The long-term future of the Orbost infrastructure is also being actively secured.

While the Sole reservoir continues to perform robustly, Amplitude is progressing its East Coast Shelf Project (ECSP) toward a final investment decision in the first quarter of the 2027 financial year (Q1 FY27).

If approved, the ECSP will connect the offshore Artisan, Annie, and Juliet gas discoveries to the Orbost facility.

This integration would significantly extend the operational life of the Orbost processing plant and secure its role as a key contributor to the regional economy for years to come.
