Member of the Orbost Fire Brigade, Laura Tidey, will be taking on the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb virtually again this year, raising funds for the Peter Mac Cancer Foundation, Lifeline and 000Foundation to improve support services, fund research, remove stigmas and raise awareness of mental health issues including depression, Post Traumatic Stress Injury and suicide.
From August 12 to September 12 Laura will be climbing stairs each day in 25kg of firefighting gear, with the goal of reaching 3249 stairs climbed, to represent the number of suicides in Australia in 2022.
Last year, Laura raised $1615, and is hoping to break that total this year.
So far, this year’s Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb has raised more than $430,000, with the goal to reach $1 million.
