Members of the East Gippsland Aeroclub took advantage of ideal winter flying conditions on Saturday, August 1, embarking on a scenic coastal fly-away to Mallacoota.
The weekend outing drew 15 club members operating eight different aircraft, including a Cessna 182, RV, Jabiru, Sting, Sling, Tecnam, Microlight, and an RV7.
The flight path took the group along East Gippsland’s scenic coastline, offering sweeping views and a seasonal highlight of at least one whale sighting from the air.
After touching down at Mallacoota Airport at approximately 11.30am, the group was collected by the Mallacoota Pub Minibus and transported into town for lunch.
Following their meal, the members returned to the airfield to visit the World War II Bunker Museum.
The stop allowed the group to explore the local museum and learn more about Mallacoota’s historical role in wartime coastal surveillance.
Aircraft began departing Mallacoota at around 2.30pm, with all participants returning safely home by late afternoon.
Club members noted that the trip successfully combined safe aviation, regional tourism and local hospitality.
The East Gippsland Aeroclub welcomes anyone with an interest in aviation.
The club holds monthly barbecue meetings and coordinates various flying activities throughout the year.
