Last Thursday’s social bowls session attracted a good attendance of bowlers, despite the cloudy weather and the lazy cold breeze.

The number of bowlers allowed the match committee to organise the bowlers into fours to play two games of 10 ends.

Although the breeze seemed to become lazier and colder as the day went on, the players persevered to complete the two games.

There was only one team who won both of their games, although they had a change of second for the last game.

The winning four being Greg Rankin (skip), Lyn O’Brien, Vanessa Frank/Narelle Shorten and Dennis McCann.

The day was again, unfortunately, marked by a high number of wrong biases which was jokingly put down to the cold conditions, with bowlers concentrating on finishing the game rather than their delivery.

However, only 10 intrepid or perhaps foolhardy bowlers stayed for social bowls on Sunday when rain made an appearance just as bowls was due to start.

The remaining players formed themselves into two teams of triples on one rink and two pairs on the other.

It was initially decided to play one game of 12 ends, however it was agreed that the length of the game could be adjusted depending on the weather and the commitment of the players.

The rain cleared as the game progressed with the matches extended to 16 ends.

Once back inside the clubroom, it was discovered that the two winning teams had scored equal points, so, as it had been a very informal session and rather than do a countback, a draw was declared.

The next social bowls will be on Thursday, as usual bowlers are asked to be at the club prior to 11.30am.

DRILLS AND SKILLS

A perfect morning for bowling encouraged members to attend Saturday’s Drills and Skills with coach, Ron Hatcher, who decided it was a good opportunity to return to some basics.

The first exercise was to keep the bowlers staying down when they bowled and not to pop up too quickly which can affect the delivery.

The second drill was to control the weight of the delivery, with each bowler having to deliver two forehand and two backhand deliveries to short and long jacks.

The last exercise for the morning was a quick game of three bowl Pairs putting the earlier drills into practice.

The next Drills & Skills will be on Saturday, August 15, with the exercises commencing at 10am.
