A 2500-head yarding will greet buyers at the 71st Bill Wyndham and Company opening spring store cattle sale at the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange this week.
BWC livestock agent and auctioneer, Jake Fullgrabe, said the yarding will be another outstanding run of quality East Gippsland cattle from renowned breeders.
“The calibre of cattle this year has been outstanding, with the genetic improvements in the sires our clients are using really showing through in their progeny,” Mr Fullgrabe said.
“We are also seeing repeat buyers coming back year after year for these quality lines.
“They can bid with confidence, knowing the cattle will perform and deliver the results they are looking for.”
Some of the larger vendors include Chris and Mary Wheeler of Buchan South who will offer a consignment of 300 head, while Pendergast Alpine Livestock, Benambra, will offer 250 mixed-sex calves.
BWC livestock agent, Gerard Ogilvie, said there were some excellent feature lines on offer, with a strong selection of quality cattle coming forward.
“We have a good selection of heavy feeder cattle across the consignments, which is sure to be of interest to buyers looking for quality cattle to suit a range of restockers and feedlotters, as well as heifers suitable for breeding purposes,”
Mr Ogilvie said.
Heath Taylor, of Forge Creek, will have 130 mixed-sex Charolais in the sale, with B & G Edlington of Orbost contributing 80 Angus mixed-sex cattle.
Also featuring in the sale is a line of 80 Angus and Black Baldy steers from Rod Baylis and Belinda Kramme of Johnsonville, while WG & PM Connley of Benambra, will offer 60 two-year-old Hereford steers.
The weather as usual will play a part in the results but rain at the start of this week has been an excellent contribution.
“The past several months weather-wise have been a real mixed bag of lollies, with a very mild start to winter giving us an extended grass-growing period and allowing stock to continue to improve,” BWC auctioneer and livestock agent, Mick O’Callaghan said.
“However, after some big frosts and a lack of rain recently, some areas of East Gippsland were starting to look dry.
“The good rain at the start of the week has definitely lifted confidence in the season.
“Over the past several weeks, we have seen a price correction, but cattle are still selling very well.
“At this time of year, the quality of cattle through selling centres can start to drop off, but our clients specifically keep stock for this this sale every year, and good-quality cattle continue to sell well.”
The 71st Wyndhams opening spring store cattle sale starts at 9am Friday, August 21.
