The Orbost Arts Centre hosted a successful Antiques Evaluation Day on Sunday, August 9, drawing a steady stream of residents eager to learn more about the history and value of their family heirlooms and collectables.
The fundraising event featured consultations with two of Australia’s respected industry professionals, Jon Dwyer and Dennice Collett, who offered their time and expertise to support the local arts facility.
Mr Dwyer, a leading Australian art expert and valuer, provided assessments for international and Australian art, sculptures, works on paper, books, prints and memorabilia.
Ms Collett, a highly regarded decorative arts specialist, lent her expertise to valuations of historic furniture, ceramics, oriental items, objects of vertu, Australiana and antiquities.
Throughout the day, visitors presented a diverse range of objects for examination, including antique jewellery, clocks, historic books, weapons, pictures, decorative boxes and other unique items.
The evaluation day offered a social and relaxed atmosphere, with volunteers serving soup, tea, and coffee to attendees as they conversed about the history of their items.
The historical focus continues at the centre with its latest exhibition, Beautiful Bygones, which remains on display until September 27.
The exhibition showcases vintage toys, pictures, furniture, mirrors, tools and other regional artefacts that reflect the historical development of the local area across different eras.
The local heritage theme is further integrated across the facility, with public sculptures and heritage objects displayed around the centre, adjacent parklands the local library and the Slab Hut.
