Overcast, cool and windy conditions greeted bowlers for last Thursday’s social session at the Orbost Bowls Club.
Nothing stops bowlers on game day, with the match committee organising two teams of fours and two of triples to play two games of 10 ends. Seasoned players found they had to adjust their delivery to get anywhere near the kitty, though conditions calmed towards the final ends of the second game. Winning both games to take out the day were Bruce Kneebone, Steve Shorten and skip David Perry.
Sunday’s social bowls was well attended and played in ideal weather, despite a freshening breeze. Players competed across two 10-end games in a mix of fours and triples. With no two-game winners, overall honours went to the best team with a win and a draw — Dennis McCann, Narelle Shorten, Geoff Lynn and skip Ron Hatcher.
The next social session will be held this Thursday, with bowlers requested to arrive before 11.30am.
DRILLS AND SKILLS
Fine weather turned out for last Saturday’s Drills and Skills session, with players stripping back to short sleeves as the morning warmed up.
With the coach required elsewhere, bowlers tackled two set exercises. The first focused on preventing bowls from crossing the head, using an offset marker in front of the jack where players had to round the marker and pull up on the correct side.
For the second exercise, Hatcher split players into trios playing individually, where points were only awarded for winning consecutive ends.
The next Drills and Skills session takes place this Saturday at 10am.
