The Orbost Education Centre (OEC) is inviting the community to its public open day on Monday, September 14 at 21 Ruskin Street running from 12-6pm.
The event offers a day of food, technology demonstrations, program launches and a special graduation ceremony celebrating local student’s achievements.
OEC manager, Susie Bady said the open day marks a major milestone for the region, highlighting the return of vital adult education programming and the success of local flexible study initiatives.
“Visitors can tour the upgraded GELLEN Study Hub room, which provides online students with a quiet, secure space, free internet, computers, and one-on-one study support accessible 24/7,” Ms Bady said.
“To welcome everyone, we will host a free barbecue lunch at 12pm and and a free barbecue dinner at 5pm, we hope to see lots of local community members.”
The open day will also showcase the GELLEN’s cutting-edge STEAM Lab, featuring hands-on stations with robotics, virtual reality, badge making and sticker making for all ages.
“A special graduation ceremony will honour a group of local young women who completed their Certificate III in Early Childhood Education, at 3.30pm,” Ms Bady said.
“Students supported by the OEC, GELLEN, the Study Hub, and Gippsland TAFE, have successfully utilised Victoria’s Free TAFE initiative locally without commuting, and are now qualified to enter Orbost’s early learning workforce.”
Whether you are looking to upskill, seeking a dedicated space to study your online university course, or simply want to enjoy a free lunch or dinner with your neighbours, everyone is welcome to attend the open day and view the term four programs starting in early October.
