A stunning display of eclectic local vehicles showcasing automotive excellence from past to present is taking centre stage at the Gippsland Vehicle Collection in Maffra.
Stealing the spotlight is “Maffra’s Golden Roller,” a 100-year-old steam roller with a checkered history, which celebrated its centenary during a special open day on Sunday, August 30.
The exhibition features veteran and vintage classics echoing timeless elegance and craftsmanship, headlined by a rare 1910 Kelsey Motorette — one of only four known to exist worldwide and the only remaining example in Australia.
From early 1900s classics to futuristic electric marvels, the display highlights decades of engineering evolution, prestige, and style. Featured vehicles range from Porsche and Rolls Royce to two first-of-build Holden models, along with historic motorcycles and scooters.
Among the standout stories on display is a Vespa 150 scooter purchased in Karachi, Pakistan, by Florence Nightingale Medal recipient and Red Cross nurse Bernadette Gleeson.
Beyond the automotive lineup, visitors can explore a world-class model train display, a collection of more than 3500 model cars, historic pushbikes, and a rail precinct featuring rolling stock housed in a restored guards van.
The new exhibition runs through until the end of October. Located at 1A Maffra-Sale Road, Maffra, the museum is open Friday to Monday from 10am to 4pm, every day during school holidays, or by appointment for group bookings.
