Wilderness Coast Artists (WCA) in Orbost are preparing a members exhibition of bird-themed artworks, Flights of Fancy, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Landcare in Orbost.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, October 10 and remains open Friday through Tuesday until November 7.
The opening also celebrates the unveiling of the Gippsland Water Dragon project.
The project began with community involvement at the Landcare Expo at the Orbost Show and continued through East Gippsland Shire’s Immersive program at the Forge Theatre in Bairnsdale, before being presented at the Creative Summit earlier this year.
Winning Flights of Fancy paintings and the finished Gippsland Water Dragon project will be on display at the Landcare 40th anniversary event on November 6 at the Orbost Golf Club, with guest speaker Sean Dooley — the Birdman.
Individual WCA members are busy preparing artworks for a variety of exhibitions locally and across Victoria.
Recently, three members – Cynthia Boyle, Ngaere Donald and Jan Martin exhibited in the Australian Guild of Realist Artists exhibition at the Victorian Artists Society in Melbourne, where Jan Martin was awarded a highly commended for her watercolour.
Many WCA members are also preparing to enter work in the Tyers exhibition, held on November 6, 7 and 8.
Ngaere Donald and the Town and Country Painters are holding an exhibition at the Orbost Arts Centre, opening on Saturday, October 31 at 2pm.
Cynthia Boyle is preparing for a solo exhibition at the East Gippsland Art Gallery in February 2027.
The exhibition, entitled Weather Report, follows her previous solo exhibition at Montsalvat in 2023, Let’s Talk About the Weather.
The Wilderness Coast Artists studio continues to expand its activities with a fortnightly drawing class, a fortnightly watercolour group and monthly portrait painting sessions.
