Come and dance with the flowers

16 October 2018
in Local News

It is only one and a half weeks now until the St Andrew’s Uniting Church 99th Flower Show hits town once again, from October 26 and 27, so it is time to seriously organise any entries you would like to contribute.

This year’s theme is ‘Dancing with Flowers’ and it is sure to produce a riot of colour.

Local gardens are full of colour at this time of year, despite the lack of rain, so have a look around your garden, get a schedule from the Snowy River Mail office, Kingfruit, Dickens or Orbost Concrete and Garden Supplies and see what sections you could enter.

The schedule also has some helpful notes about how to contribute as well as helpful hints on how to go about it.

Entries can be made next Thursday, October 25, between 5pm and 7pm, or on the Friday morning, up until 8.45am, when judging takes place behind closed doors.

The official opening will be at 11am on Friday when this year’s special guest, well known ABC radio personality, Debbie Bye, will open the show.

Deb’s radio career includes 17 years with the ABC, nine of those as manager of ABC Gippsland from 1994 to 2003, and prior to that with the ABC in Mackay, Queensland.

Since then Deb set up Gippsland’s first and only Christian radio station – Life FM – where she was manager from 2003 to 2015. Deb also does freelance media training, conference and meeting facilitation and consultancy through her company, Manna Media.

She records family and community histories and has received awards for her work in this area.

Deb has an enthusiastic, bubbly personality and is sure to bring liveliness to the opening ceremony.

The St Joseph’s Primary School children will bring a musical presentation under the leadership of well known music teacher, Peter May, so there will be plenty to entertain to make this opening ceremony one not to be missed.

Following the opening, the doors to the halls will be open for visitors to browse the entries, look for bargains at the cake, crafts, veggies, plant and book stalls, as well as enjoy the home made morning and afternoon teas and delicious lunches.

Times to visit the flower show are Friday, October 26, from 11am to 4pm, and Saturday, October 27, from 9.30am to 3pm. Visitors are assured a beautiful display of dancing flowers and a perfume to arouse your senses.
