Bonang Road petition received

14 August 2019
in Local News

East Gippsland Shire Council received a petition at its general meeting held in Omeo on Tuesday, August 6, forwarded from the office of Member for East Gippsland, Tim Bull, submitted by Alan Reed on behalf of residents of Delegate, Delegate River and commuters of Delegate River Road and the Bonang Road asking council to provide a suspension of the use of the roads and bridges by log trucks.

The petition contained the following request: “We the residents of the locality of Delegate River and other users of Delegate River Road and the Bonang Road between the two ends of Delegate River Road, are concerned about the increased logging activity in the area, which is occasioning the use of Delegate River Road and its bridges and the bridge at the Victoria/New South Wales border, by log trucks. The increasing pressure is resulting in damage to the surface of Delegate River Road, most of which is unsealed, and there is concern over the ability of the bridges to cope with loads imposed.”

Council received the petition and noted its content, in response to the petitioners’ request, to be presented at a future ordinary meeting of council.

Moved by Cr Mark Reeves and seconded by Cr Joe Rettino, councillors unanimously agreed to receive the petition and consider a suspension of the use of the Delegate River Road and bridges by log trucks.

Council officers will prepare a report documenting a proposed course of action for presentation and consideration at a future ordinary meeting of council.

Council officers will write to the head petitioners advising them of these actions.
