A damp weather forecast didn’t deter concert-goers at Mallacoota on Saturday where everyone thrived on live music in the outdoors – particularly with a surprise appearance from the legend herself, Kylie Minogue.
One attendee was Cassy Cunningham and her family, who said she was originally worried about the weather with a damp forecast.
“We needn’t have been concerned,” Cassy said.
“The night was perfect.”
The talented Mia Wray opened the show, taking to the stage for her first band show.
“It was a shame there wasn’t more of a crowd at that early stage for her,” Cassy said.
“She was amazing.
“She had such great talent and stage presence, she’s definitely someone to really watch for, though I’m sure you won’t need to look hard; she’ll be everywhere.”
Cassy said the powerhouse duo Vika and Linda showed their vocal talent, and while it was disappointing for the crowd that Daryl Braithwaite was unwell and had to pull out, Jon Stevens was “beyond words brilliant”.
“I’m a huge fan of INXS and Noiseworks so I wasn’t upset at all when we were told he’d be filling the gap,” she said.
“I loved Mia but I think the highlight for me was Jon. He apologised for being rusty having not performed in so long, but the crowd would have none of that.
“If it was indoors Jon and his band would have raised the roof.”
Mushroom Group’s Michael Gudinski announced at the start of the show he had a surprise in his pocket.
“It didn’t even enter our heads it could be someone as huge as Kylie Minogue,” Cassy said.
“Even when he was announcing her I had thoughts that it would be an impersonator, but when the tiny Kylie came out, everyone’s jaws dropped.
“What a scoop! Everyone was up and hoping she’d sing, but she didn’t, which was a real shame.
“She came out to dance with Mia during James Reyne’s performance of the Aussie Crawl classic, Boys Light Up, what an amazing visit.”
