Last Saturday night, Lawson Lane was abuzz at the Orbost Snowy Grower’s Community Gardens.
Snowy Grower’s Community Gardens project officer, Helen Hurle, had her hair shaved by local, Amber Wade.
The locks have now been donated to the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation (AAAF) which is based in Frankston North.
Helen had been planning to shave her head for a number of years, but the COVID-19 pandemic hampered her plan.
She then allowed her hair to grow, and then began considering donating her locks.
After doing some research, she discovered some charities didn’t accept grey hair, until she came across AAAF.
Then, late last year, she was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, and is beginning chemo therapy on Thursday.
