More than three years after the Black Summer Bushfires there are still eight incomplete bushfire recovery projects.
These projects include the East Cape Conran boardwalk, the Cape Conran cabins and Parks Victoria office, the Thurra River bridge and camp site, Point Hicks lighthouse and accommodation, as well as various access tracks which were closed following the bushfires.
Works to rebuild the boardwalk got underway in May last year, before grinding to a halt along with the Cape Conran cabins after Parks Victoria received advice from First Peoples – State Relations (FP-SR) that works may have impacted on a registered Aboriginal place and that artefacts had been re-discovered during the construction.
Since then, both the boardwalk and the cabins have sat dormant.
The Thurra River bridge, which provides access to Point Hicks lighthouse and accommodation, has also been left untouched after its pylons were damaged, causing the bridge to collapse in the middle.
