The Orbost Snowy Rovers juniors’ season culminated on Sunday, with a hard fought away fixture against Lucknow at the Lucknow Recreation Reserve.
With no teams progressing to the finals this season, Sunday was all the teams’ last chance to impress before the boots go away for another season.
In their final match for the season, the under 11s brought their best effort on a cold Sunday morning.
Angus Seal was on fire all over the ground showing why he’s ready for under 13s.
Ruby Faithful was looking hungry for her third goal of the season, putting every effort into getting an opportunity but unfortunately, we couldn’t get a goal on the score board.
Emmett Clementine continued to put himself in positions where he would get access to the ball, while Jack Joiner worked hard all over the ground to gain opportunities to move the ball forward.
The effort impressed the coaching staff, who were keen to congratulate every player who pulled on a Snowy Rovers guernsey this season.
UNDER 13
The Blues put in another solid performance on Sunday, with the development of this team over the season being enormous.
Orbost was up and about early, the rovers raising the pressure bar early with Lachlan Robinson and Mitch Herbert winning the midfield clearance gaining plenty of forward run allowing Hunter Greaves to hit the goals early, taking a two-point lead at quarter time.
In a very tight second quarter, which saw plenty of tackle pressure from both sides as ball shifted regularly from end to end, neither gaining an ascendancy, the scores locked at half time.
After the main change, Lucknow brought the extra run and carry game kicking away to a three-goal lead.
The Blues didn’t drop their heads, giving it one last concerted effort, kicking two goals in the final term to narrow the final margin to 10 points.
Best players for the Blues were Lachlan Robinson, Mitch Herbert, Hunter Greaves (three goals), Aiden Fulton-Hughes, Sampson Clementine and Charlie Joiner.
UNDER 15
The under 15s got back on the winners list in trying conditions, hail stones testing the players resolve.
Kicking with the wind in the first quarter, the Blues went straight on the attack hitting the scoreboard and controlling the play all over the ground.
The midfield unit was unstoppable winning the clearances at will, hitting targets up forward, opening up a 27-point lead.
In the second quarter when kicking against the wind, Beau Hanratty (two) picked through the opposition defence with his deadly left foot finding his targets allowing us to go forward without blazing away, allowing a couple of goals to be kicked against the wind.
Daniel Martin was like a bull winning the stoppages and dishing the ball out of the packs and covering the whole ground.
Cooper Findley, Jack Barnes, Lochie Carey, Chase Cullinan, Jammo Bills and Tye Robinson had the Lucknow forwards covered anytime they tried to attack.
Tojoe Martin and Mitch Herbert ran hard all day on the wings. Khyson Rowe snapped a great goal from the pocket against the wind to have the Magpies buried by halftime, the margin stretched to 40 points.
Xavier Martin and Zane Holley (three) were dangerous up forward always presenting and working hard up the ground to help out the midfield, while the efforts of under 13s players, Lachlan Robinson, Jacque Renaut, Kayden Smith, Herbert and Jimmy Hardy were again inspiring.
Best players in an even performance for the Blues were Daniel Martin, Hanratty, Tojoe Martin, Findley and Tye Robinson.
