The Federal and State Governments are making it safer for local road users thanks to an investment in road safety upgrades at three locations.
The East Gippsland projects include:
– Great Alpine Road between Bruthen and Ensay – Mid-block road safety treatment (additional/widening of lanes and shoulders)
– Great Alpine Road between Ensay and Cobungra – Mid-block road safety treatment (additional/widening of lanes and shoulders)
– Wy Yung Road (Bullumwaal Rd) and Howitt Avenue, Wy Yung – Intersection safety improvements
“The Australian and Victorian governments are committed to improving road safety by significantly reducing the number of road deaths and serious injuries on our roads,” Federal Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Carol Brown, said.
“It is important to remember that road safety is a shared responsibility across all levels of government, and throughout our community.
“Labor’s strong investment in these vital projects underpin the Albanese Labor Government’s commitment to improving road safety in our community, and ensuring our loved ones get home safe.”
“Federal Labor, in partnership with the Victorian Government, is investing in key infrastructure that will improve road safety across Gippsland,” Federal Labor Senator for Victoria, Raff Ciccone, said.
“These projects will provide better visibility and create safer environments for all road users, reducing the risk of crashes.”
The projects are jointly funded through the $120 million Victorian Road Safety Program, with funding split evenly between the state and federal governments.
It forms part of a wider initiative from the Federal Government to target road safety, with significant funding increases across a range of programs.
