How many times have you taken visitors to the Slab Hut while they were in the area? Walked past or even just admired the wonderful historic building?
Chances are that there are people within our community who know where the Slab Hut is but have absolutely no idea what a valuable resource it is for our township or what can be purchased through the retail store.
Bree Kenny, coordinator of the Orbost Visitor Information Centre, colloquially known as the Slab Hut, is extending a warm welcome to the community to not only visit the centre on Saturday, July 20, to peruse the building, meet the individuals who provide the wonderful service but to also have a look at the first ever Slab Hut Carpark Market.
“We’ve got a variety of stalls already locked in with items on offer such as books, plants, foot poofs, knitted and crocheted items, wire jewellery, decorative hats, and Garage Creations which offer signage and trinkets not only for the garage but the house also,” Bree said.
“We still have room for more stallholders, so if you wish to set up one, then contact the Slab Hut to book.”
Since taking over the role, Bree has been working extensively updating the brochure offerings, increasing the stock and variety sold instore and ensuring that her volunteers, or as she calls them ‘vollies,’ are well catered for.
She has also been dedicated to increasing the number of active members offering their services to the centre and is always on the lookout to add more people with skills or time to the roster.
