Mallacoota residents, businesses and visitors are getting a budget influx from the East Gippsland Shire Council. In addition to delivering services, support and maintenance programs shire-wide, the 2024/25 Budget includes a mix of funds carried forward and newly budgeted funds for the following capital works projects for Mallacoota, including streetscapes (over two million) and Bastion Point geotextile groyne wall (1.7 million). The much-anticipated Mallacoota streetscape upgrade project will bring a fresh look and improved functionality to Maurice Avenue. It will feature new kerb and channel, raised pedestrian crossings, new pavement, bike racks, new street furniture,
and vegetation plantings. The breakwater at Bastion Point has suffered damage over time from wave action. Repairs and rock clearances have been undertaken on the head of the breakwater and in the boat access channel. Recently, large rocks have washed off the groyne wall during storms. Remediation works will include the construction of a new rock armour on the seaward side of the existing breakwater to reduce wave action.
