With the East Gippsland Winter Festival wrapping up this weekend, the Deep in the Weeds Festival is set to return, but at a different location.
Hosted by Sailors Grave Brewery, Deep in the Weeds has become one of East Gippsland Winter Festival’s must-attend events and this year’s edition will be no different at the Marlo Hotel on Saturday, July 20.
Deep in the Weeds takes place on the final weekend of the festival at the iconic Marlo Hotel and it has something for everyone.
“We are super excited to announce that Watty Thompson and his Total Fire Band will headline Deep in the Weeds Festival closing the festival with a bang,” Sailors Grave’s Gab Moore said.
“As our new Dunetown venue at Marlo is a little way off, we are stoked to be collaborating with the Marlo Hotel, but you will be able to book Dunetown tours on July 20 and 21.”
Watty Thompson and his Total Fire Band provide “a reckoning of contemporary Australian country folk and baroque bush rock ‘n’ roll” (Post to Wire).
Enigmatic powerhouse, Barmah-born Watty Thompson is emerging as a striking and entirely unique performer-songwriter in Australia’s storytelling tradition.
A little bit country, a little bit folk, and 100 per cent heart, Watty’s high-energy sets impress upon those in attendance an increasingly rare skill: the ability to lay bare and embrace the highs and lows of everything that makes us human.
The Total Fire Band will be supported by an amazing lineup of Harry Hook is Real, Fenn Wilson, Olivia Lay and Megan Kennedy.
While the music will be enthralling, Sailors Grave’s exceptional range of unique, artisanal beers will be complemented by the culinary brilliance of Victorian Good Food Guide chef of the year, Jo Barrett.
Jo, who has featured numerous time on hit reality television show, Masterchef, is known for her pastry prowess, sustainability practices and use of game.
She is currently in the process of launching Wild Pie, which turns feral and native animals into pastry-based food options.
