CFA and Ambulance Victoria have joined together to develop a program called Fire Medical Response (FMR).
Members of the Orbost brigade have spent the past few months upskilling in advanced resuscitation and advanced first aid.
If you or a loved one has a cardiac arrest or are in extreme respiratory distress, the fire brigade will be dispatched at the same time as Ambulance Victoria.
A fire truck may arrive before or at the same time as an Ambulance.
This program has been developed to help Ambulance Victoria deliver lifesaving support to the community.
Orbost is one of the first volunteer brigades to undertake this training across the state, members of Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale fire brigades have also undertaken the same training.
Some of its members are only going to attend fires, some will attend both fire and medical, and a few who will only attend the medical calls.
If there are any members of the Orbost community who are interested in joining, either for fire, medical or both, please visit the CFA website, submit an expression of interest and someone from the brigade will be in contact.
The program will begin at the end of November.
