East Gippsland Art Gallery’s $8000 Small Artwork Prize with more than 300 artworks from across the country launched last Friday night, drawing a vibrant and diverse crowd.
Attendees, including some who travelled from afar, gathered to celebrate the opening and eagerly await the announcement of the winners.
“This is the gallery’s last exhibition for 2024, but undoubtedly our biggest little show of the year,” director Crystal Stubbs said.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate another hugely successful year at the gallery and showcase this incredibly diverse and captivating exhibition.”
The winner of the EGAG WRAP Small Artwork Prize 2024 is Frank Mesaric, for his oil painting, Teeth.
The winner of the Sculpture Prize is Nicole O’Regan for her work The Tracker, in green slate.
The winner of the Environment Prize is Penny Carruthers for her oil painting titled, Waiting for Kindness to Prevail.
The winner of the Youth Art Prize is Axalotol Moloney for their work, Teeth. Acrylic paint, oil pastel and resin on board.
The winner of the Children’s Art Prize is Honor Bartlett for their work, The Journey.
Honor wrote, “Inspired by the book Professor Noah’s Spaceship by Brain Wildsmith. Our animals are taking extreme measures to find a new home as their habitats are being challenged.”
EGAG WRAP Small Artwork Prize is a buy-off-the-wall exhibition, which means you can take the artwork with you at the time of purchase.

East Gippsland Art Gallery is closed from 2pm Saturday, December 21, 2024. They re-open 10am Thursday, January 2, 2025. The Small Artwork Prize Exhibition is on until January 25, 2025.
