Bairnsdale Cricket Association action will resume this Saturday with Orbost hosting the competition’s big improver in 2024/25, Lakes Entrance.
The Blues have only been victorious once in the opening eight rounds, claiming the scalp of ladder leader and premiership favourite, Lindenow South Glenaladale in round seven in a thrilling finish at the Lindenow South Recreation Reserve.
Classy all rounder Luke Endley led the way that day and he will need to get plenty of support from the likes of skipper Curtley Farley and hard hitting opener Jayden Price if the Blues are to test the Seagulls who have only suffered defeat once thus far this season, outclassed by Lindenow South Glenaladale in round six.
The Blues will be keen for a better showing in the second half of the season after a slow start to the season, hoping for a more settled line up in the coming weeks.
Orbost will be keen to bounce back after a sub par performance against St Mary’s Nagle in the match prior to the Christmas break, but will be mindful of how dangerous Lakes Entrance can be if they get on a roll, like they did in round five when the two sides met, making 358 and bowling the Blues out for just 124, almost pulling off an outright win with stumps drawn at 6/100.
That performance was an aberration, with the matches between the two sides generally close regardless of ladder positions.
Orbost’s “B’ grade side will be back in action after having to forfeit the final round prior to the break, this week taking on Buchan at the home of the caves.
The junior competition remains in recession for the school holidays, with the under 13s next match against Lucknow on January 30, with the under 16s playing Lindenow South Glenaladale at the Glenaladale Recreation Reserve.
