Orbost Golf Club was a hive of activity over the weekend, with the playing of the 2025 Snowy River Classic.
Saturday saw 115 players brave the heat, representing 42 different clubs, with the course presented beautifully and a breeze kicking in during the afternoon to make the day enjoyable.
Saturday’s winners and the leaders after day one of the two day classic were Chris Shanahan in the mens and Liz Foster in the women’s.
Chris Shanahan parred the course off a six handicap, accumulating 42 points, while Foster banked 44.
Lucas Shanahan and Damian Johnson were tied on 41 for the men’s “B” grade leadership.
Sunday saw another hot day with some equally hot results.
Canberra’s Ronnie Jordan had a great round of 43 stableford points, to finish on 81 and win the women’s classic by eight points from Carol Szekfy.
Chris Shanahan again parred the course to come in with another 42 points to finish with 84 overall, winning the men’s classic by five shots from a consistent John Cuthbertson who recorded scores of 40 and 39.
In “B” grade, Martin Hincliffe, who recorded the best score of the day, 43 points, tied with Lucas Shanahan for the 36 hole title.
Despite the testing conditions, the Orbost Golf Club hosted a great tournament, a credit to all involved.
