At more than 100 years old, Margaret Kleinitz has a lifetime of stories to share.
Born in Kew and later educated in Upwey, Margaret’s journey took an unexpected turn when she attended an agricultural college.
With teachers in high demand at the time, she stepped into the role with her characteristic pragmatism, setting her on a path that would shape many young lives.
Margaret’s teaching career led her to the small school at Corringle, where she taught a class of just 10 students.
Each day, she cycled through bush trails from her Newmerella boarding home with the McLaughlin family, making the journey to school with dedication and resilience.
Of those 10 students, three remain today – Fred Lavell, June Schloss, and Noel Cuthbertson.
Over the summer, the former students reunited with their beloved teacher, sharing a cuppa and reminiscing about the days gone by.
Margaret’s time at Corringle came to an end when she met her late husband, Robbie, along one of those same bush tracks. Love led her away from the classroom and into a new chapter – life on a share farm.
