AFL Gippsland general manager, Tim Cotter umpires a match while some enthusiastic youngsters join in a match simulation. Organisers were happy with the numbers that attended the clinic.

Footy fever arrived early at the Bairnsdale City Oval last Sunday with a series of clinics held for the aspiring AFL stars of tomorrow.

The day was planned to ignite junior football in Bairnsdale prior to local seasons commencing in late March/early April.

Run by AFL Gippsland’s Tim Cotter, Tom Crellin and Caitlin Webb, the action-packed afternoon of free entertainment offered something for everyone, including some great giveaways.

There were sessions for Auskickers to seasoned junior players.

Little legends in the making joined in the exciting Auskick and Superkick sessions, while the older kids stepped up their game with dedicated junior/youth session featuring a dynamic training session followed by a thrilling game.

The event was all about fostering community spirit and igniting passion for the great game of Australian Rules Football, and AFL Gippsland regional manager Cotter was delighted with the response.

“We were thrilled to bring Play AFL Day to Bairnsdale, the numbers were good and it’s great to see so many new kids keen to get involved with the season just around the corner,” Cotter said.

AFL Gippsland also hosted a local club’s conference at the Bairnsdale City Oval on Monday night, where topics including player list management, coaching excellence, volunteer engagement, community connection, governance, administration and finance were tackled.
