Former Orbost cricketer Max Welsh played in his third premiership for the season last weekend at Stratford in the Sale Maffra Cricket Association.
Welsh was part of the Stratford side that defeated Sale in a dramatic season finale, which had spectators on the edge of their seats at the Stratford Recreation Reserve.
Batting first Stratford managed to compile a miserly 132, after being in dire trouble at 5-13 when Welsh was dismissed first ball. In reply Sale was bowled out for just 76.
Welsh captained the Orbost Cricket Club to premiership glory in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association in 2022/23, but after the club had a disappointing season he made the move to Stratford this season.
Welsh was part of the Stratford side that was successful in the one-day competition final a couple of weeks ago over Sale where he contributed a handy 14 late in the order.
He also played in Sale Maffra’s Gippsland Cricket League grand final win over Bairnsdale in early February where he made a valuable 46.
