Croquet for MND

by

in Sport

Seven members of the Orbost Croquet Club last week participated in the Chris Eaton Memorial Perpetual Trophy Challenge at the Lakes Entrance Croquet Club.

A total of 28 players participated in a doubles random draw level play format event in pleasant weather initially, with the clouds looming towards the early afternoon, fortunately the heavens didn’t open to after the final game.

With the large number of players participating this year and to keep the competition to a one-day event, the players were divided into two groups with a final game between the winners of each group.

A reduced format of the best of seven hoops was also set for this event, with competition tight among the two groups, with Ivana Thomson and Mary Murrell winning group one with six wins, while Geoff Webb and Helen Rasmussen reigned in group two, with five wins and one loss.

In the final Webb and Rasmussen narrowly defeated Thomson and Murrell four games to three, with the combinations going hoop for hoop until the seventh hoop which was won by the victors.

Chris Eaton was an associate member of Lakes Entrance Croquet Club and a full member of Orbost Croquet Club.

The annual event is held each year, with all playing fees and raffle proceeds donated to the MND Foundation to support research into the disease.

This year’s donation proceeds amounted to $700 and will be forwarded to MND Foundation accordingly.

Following the day’s play, a delicious afternoon tea was enjoyed by both Orbost and Lakes Entrance croquet players.
