Lucas Mill was made aware of an upcoming tender for the Japanese Government to procure equipment to be supplied to developing counties.
In collaborations with their agent Farmset Solomon Islands and the Sirius Corporation of Japan, they were successful in their bidding and were awarded the tender in June of 2024.
After much negotiation the terms were settled and their collaboration had successfully obtained the tender to supply 67 model eight circular swing-blade portable sawmills to the Ministry of Forestry and Research in the Solomon Islands.
An order of this size is the largest individual order to date, marking a new milestone for the Lucas Mill Team.
Given Lucas Mill’s history in the Solomon Islands, it was no surprise that our product would be a great fit for the brief.
Since 1994 there are approximately 1300 Lucas Mills in service in the Solomon Islands.
Due to the market demands in the Solomon Islands, the portable nature and affordability of our machine has seen a thriving market.
Other similar markets in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands have also flourished, particular in the sale of our model six and model eight machines.
Come the end of August, our team has seen the fruition of this project having packed three 40ft containers destined for Honiara in mid-September.
