Orbost Snowy Rovers’ reserves side have opened the season with a massive 174-point victory over an undermanned Paynesville in round one of the East Gippsland Football Netball League at Lochiel Park last Saturday.
The Blues played with more system and energy, kicking seven goals in a free flowing opening term, while the Gulls had to wait to the third quarter to register their first major for the season.
Orbost wasn’t short on goal kicking options, with Chris Donchi on his return to the club leading the way with four, he has played the last two seasons at Buchan.
Jack Sanna also bobbed up with four, while coach, Andrew Kenny steered through three, as did Jayden Price and Kayden Harrison in his first match for the club.
Tim Findley and young Angus Joiner also booted two in impressive starts to the season.
Good players were aplenty, but the coaching
panel singled out Price, Mark McDonald, Lachlan Kendrick, Findley, Kenny and Harrison.
Kendrick is a welcome addition after a couple of years umpiring in Townsville.
Orbost’s next match will be on April 26, when they do battle with Wy Yung at Bullumwaal Road.
