Orbost Snowy Rovers maintained its unbeaten run in the East Gippsland Football Netball League (EGFNL) reserves competition with a convincing victory over Lindenow at Lochiel Park last Saturday in round three action.
The Blues were out of blocks early, kicking four unanswered first term majors and at eight goals to two at half time, the game was out of the reach of the Cats who trailed by 31 points.
The third term became a real slog, dominated by the half back lines of the respective outfits, the Blues managing the only goal
for the term.
The final term was the best spectacle of the match with the speed out of the game, the sides looked relatively evenly matched, Orbost running out impressive 49-point winners, making it three from three under new coach, Andrew Kenny.
Mark McDonald and Kyle Derbyshire both finished with three goals for the Blues, who nominated Brad McDonald, Chris Downward, Lachlan Barnes, Luke Borley, Jayden Price and Lachlan Osborn as
their better players.
The thirds match was high class, featuring two high class undefeated teams in the replay of the 2024 EGFNL grand final, on the day where the Blues unveiled their
premiership flag.
The Blues looked the goods early kicking four goals in the first term, opening up a 21-point advantage at the first break.
Both sides were impressive in defence, as the Cats chipped away at the lead, narrowing the margin to just four points at three quarter time, with plenty to play for in the final term.
The pressure and intensity was clearly evident in the final term, as both sides through caution to the wind, the Cats finishing best with four final term goals, to snatch victory by six points in a match fitting of grand final.
Angus Joiner was busy up forward for the Blues kicking four goal, named in the best with the explosive Bobby Bills, Thomas Macalister, Linkoln McGregor, Tye Robinson and Cooper Findley.
Orbost will make the long trek down the highway this Saturday to do battle with Stratford.
