East Gippsland Shire Council can confirm the tip shop at the Orbost Transfer Station is not closed.
Unfortunately, multiple break-ins and vandalism – as frequently as three times a week – mean that on occasions the tip shop has been temporarily closed because of damage, for staff and community safety, to preserve crime scenes, and to make repairs.
Damage to the site has been focussed on the tip shop but has also included damage to equipment. If anyone has information regarding the criminal activity, they are asked to contact police.
Council will continue to provide access to recycling and waste disposal options including the tip shop at Orbost, however the ability to offer a tip shop will be jeopardised if targeted vandalism continues.
