Gippsland residents are being offered free workshops to better prepare their homes for bushfires, storms, floods and other hazards.
Local charity Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) has partnered with the Resilient Building Council (RBC) to help Gippsland homeowners assess their property’s resilience and take simple steps to improve it.
The free workshops will guide residents through RBC’s easy-to-use digital self-assessment tools, which provide practical, tailored recommendations to strengthen buildings against disaster risks.
“Whether you’re living in an older home, planning a new build, or rebuilding after a loss, these workshops will be invaluable,” GERF president Andy Tegart said.
“Recent increases in
the number and severity of bushfires, floods and
storms from climate change means we need to be ready for more frequent extreme weather events.
“If you can improve your home’s resilience, natural hazards may not become a personal disaster.
“This free program will provide clear, cost-effective advice on steps (big or small) you can take to strengthen and better protect your home or business.”
Resilient Building Council CEO Kate Cotter encouraged homeowners to make use
of the tools and incentives
on offer.
“Once you’ve completed the self-assessment, you can choose to have your Resilience Rating certified by an expert and access your Resilience Rating Certificate,” Ms Cotter said.
“Households can use their certificate to access insurance or mortgage benefits, and have peace of mind that their home is better protected.”
