Players, members and supporters of the Orbost Hockey Club all took advantage over the King’s Birthday holiday weekend of the league-wide bye in the East Gippsland Hockey Association to take a well-deserved break and spend some quality time with their families.
With a third of the 2025 season now “in the books”, one of the real features of the club this year is the number of local families who have multiple members who pull on the Green and Gold each week as either players or coaches, or both.
Hockey is unique among all of the sports played in Orbost in that all league fixtures from the youngest junior grades to the senior matches are played one after the other on match days, a fact which really contributes to family-friendly participation.
Indeed, so strong are the family connections that so far in 2025 no less than 18 separate families have contributed two or more players or coaches to Orbost Hockey Club on-field efforts this season, with many more parents and family members providing plenty of off-field support on gamedays.
Orbost will be back in action this Saturday when it will welcome Sale to the Orbost Recreation Reserve.
