Gippsland’s rich tapestry of landscapes, experiences and welcoming communities has earned the region five finalist spots in the prestigious 2025 TAC Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards, including Marlo.
This year’s Gippsland finalists are:
– Lakes Entrance – Top Tourism Town (population over 5000)
– Paynesville – Small Tourism Town (population 1500–5000)
– Marlo, Noojee, and Kilcunda – Tiny Tourism Town (population under 1500)
Presented by the Victorian Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), these awards celebrate towns that provide outstanding visitor experiences, demonstrate strong community spirit and champion their local tourism offerings through compelling storytelling.
From the iconic coastal charm of Lakes Entrance to the peaceful riverside of Marlo, the forest-fringed town of Noojee, the seaside escape of Kilcunda, and the boating haven of Paynesville — each Gippsland finalist represents the region’s remarkable diversity and tourism appeal.
Marlo Ratepayers and Residents Association (MRRA) president, Shayne Boys, said the nomination is great recognition for the town.
“The Marlo community led by MRRA is thrilled that this community-engendered application has been successful so far,” she said.
“Putting together the application was truly a community-wide effort.
“Marlo is the tiny gem of East Gippsland. Small, unspoilt, surrounded by astonishing landscapes of wilderness and superb night sky. It is tiny, warm and welcoming – a sanctuary for locals and visitors.”
Terry Robinson, chief executive officer of Destination Gippsland, said the nominations reflect the depth and resilience of the region’s tourism sector.
“To have five Gippsland towns recognised as finalists is a testament to the passion, innovation and pride of our communities,” he said.
“Each of these destinations offers something truly special — whether it’s natural beauty, a rich sense of place or warm country hospitality,” Mr Robinson said. “This recognition reinforces what locals and visitors already know — that Gippsland is one of Victoria’s most compelling tourism regions.”
Victorians are encouraged to vote for their favourite finalists on the VTIC website, with public voting open until Friday, June 27.
