Brisk bowls

Sunday's highest point scorers in the monthly Scroungers competition were Gwen Hatcher (62), Ross O'Brien (59) and Ron Hatcher (56). (PS)

Numbers were significantly reduced for last Thursday’s social bowls session at the Orbost Bowls Club, with only the most dedicated members taking to the greens in the bitterly cold weather.

Those that attended took part in a friendly rollup, managing six ends before retreating to the warmth of the clubroom.

Sunday was a complete reversal for both the weather and attendance numbers, for the fourth round of the monthly Scroungers competition.

With nearly all rinks in use, there was a highly competitive edge to the day with the highest point scorer for the round being Gwen Hatcher with 62 points, followed by Ross O’Brien on 59 and Ron Hatcher on 56.

Greg Rankin is the current overall leader for the competition on 162, closely followed by Geoff Lynn on 161.

Weather permitting, the next social bowls will be this Thursday. Be at the clubhouse no later than 12.30pm.

DRILLS AND SKILLS

Once again there was perfect weather and an excellent attendance for the Saturday morning coaching lesson.

The main theme for the morning was putting into practice all the lessons from previous weeks.

All members, particularly the newer bowlers are taking advantage of the free coaching lessons with Ron Hatcher, which start each Saturday at 10am.
