National Water Week, running from October 20-26, celebrates the vital role water plays in our lives, our communities and our future.

One of the best ways for kids to get involved is through East Gippsland Water’s annual National Water Week Poster Competition, which inspires learning, creativity and action around water.

Entries are now open for this year’s competition, which has the theme of ‘Water Heroes: Save

Every Drop’.

With categories for primary-school and kinder-aged children, posters can be made in A4 or A3 size, using any art material or digital technology.

Winners will be chosen by:

– How well their poster communicates the competition theme and/or relevant water-related issues

– How effective their poster looks from a distance

– The best use of art materials, and

– use of innovative images, design or concepts.

Prizes will be awarded for first and second winners in each category. The winning poster in each category will also be automatically entered into the state level of competition. East Gippsland Water also produces a yearly calendar featuring the winning entries from each section.

East Gippsland Water’s general manager customers, community and communications, David Radford, said the poster competition is a fun and engaging classroom activity that also helps students learn about the importance of water in their community.

“We receive fantastic entries from schools across the region each year and many have gone on to win the state level award – it is always a challenge

for the judges to select the winners. I encourage early childhood educators, teachers and parents to talk to young people about submitting an entry,” Mr Radford said.

Entries close Friday, September 12, at 5pm.
