Despite being blown away on the big ground at Bullumwaal Road in round 16 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League by Wy Yung, the Orbost Snowy Rovers appear set to return to finals in 2025.
With Lindenow causing one of the upsets of the season and defeating Stratford last Saturday, the Blues will now only have to beat cellar-dweller, Paynesville by over 100 points to book their ticket and that is on the proviso that Stratford can beat Boisdale Briagolong, if they don’t percentage won’t be needed.
The Tigers set up the win with an eight-goal-to-two first half, as they dominated every aspect of the match, confirming why they occupy second place on the ladder, and look the most likely challenger to Lucknow.
Orbost lifted in the second half and was more productive, but was still outscored by seven goals to four as they were outclassed by
61 points.
Harry Kellow continued his purple patch of form, kicking five goals, he has kicked 20 majors in the past month.
Bradley Daniel was back close to his best kicking three, with Jack Betts and freakish Nathan Dennison both slotting a couple.
Dennison looks to be working into some nice form, he will be a key player in the Tigers quest for another premiership.
Best players for the Tigers were Jock Overend, Daniel, wingman Jack Halabut, the consistent Norman Betts, Nate Somerville
and Kellow.
Hamish Nettleton kicked three of Orbost’s six goals, and looks set for a bag this week against the Gulls.
Consistent performers Kieran Vickery and Curtley Nettleton led the way for the Blues, while Jamieson Humphreys, Max Welsh, Sean Nippress and Braeden Ross all tried hard against a quality foe.
Paynesville will make the trek east to Lochiel Park this week in search of its maiden win for the season, a prospect which looks near impossible, with the action on the sidelines set to be as busy as on it, as spectators and officials pump the scores into calculators, working out the vital percentage.
