Marlo’s Coastal School Firewise site is getting an added layer of protection.
Far East Victoria Landcare, in partnership with the Moogji Aboriginal Council Inc. Nursery and crew, is working to ensure Firewise plants at the site have the best chance to thrive.
While the area is already fenced, hungry kangaroos, rabbits and bandicoots have developed a taste for some of the plantings.
Tall wire tree guards are now being installed to give the plants a stronger start.
“These guards will make all the difference,” Far East Victoria Landcare facilitator, Josh Puglisi said.
“Once the plants are tall enough to withstand browsing, they’ll be able to thrive on their own.”
The Firewise plants are designed to improve the local environment – reducing wind, retaining soil moisture, and creating long-term benefits for the school and wider Marlo community.
Far East Victoria Landcare acknowledges the generous support of the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife in helping protect this important community site.
