Lakes Entrance Mechanics Hall was the display venue for more than 700 pieces of writing created by students from prep to year 12 who attend 11 schools in the Far East Network (Omeo to Mallacoota).
Students gathered for the opening on Wednesday, September 10.
The opening included didgeridoo playing, the Acknowledgement of Country by Lakes Entrance Secondary students and then the formal opening by Ian Burrage, regional director for the South Eastern Region, Victoria.
Ian praised the quality and range of work. Poetry, personal narratives and creative stories and other types of writing were on display.
He thanked the students and their teachers for participating in the Writers Showcase, which provides an authentic purpose for writing.
This year students had the opportunity to write during their visits to the Writers Showcase.
Writing from the heart, or gathering ideas from objects as seed ideas, were embraced by the students. “Congratulations to our young authors for their efforts in developing and presenting their work,” Ian said.
