Local MPs Darren Chester and Tim Bull joined the East Gippsland community in commemorating Victoria Police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty or as a result of their service on Monday.
A National Police Remembrance Day service was held at St John’s Anglican Church in Bairnsdale.
“On National Police Remembrance Day, we honour the men and women who served as Victoria Police officers and died throughout the year,” Mr Chester said.
“Today’s service was a reminder of the dangers faced daily by the thin blue line as they ‘uphold the right’ in our state.
“Law enforcement is a unique profession, and we are indebted to all those who serve to protect our freedoms and keep us safe in an increasingly troubled world.”
Mr Chester said National Police Remembrance Day provided an opportunity for communities to reflect on the sacrifice made by police officers and their families.
“It is important that we pause to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and also to show our support and respect for the officers who continue to serve with courage and commitment,” he said.
