The weather once again played havoc with Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant last week, with all games being cancelled.
Match points were awarded as a draw, with each team receiving seven points, meaning there was no change on the ladder with Orbost still sitting in fourth place.
The news in weekend pennant was much better, with divisions one and four back in the winning seat, with both sides winning in impressive clean sweeps.
Division one played away against top-of-the-ladder Lakes Entrance 2, and were impressive winners, 64-43.
Winners for Orbost were Bruce Kneebone, Maurice Frank, Peter Coulton, Hayden Lancaster (22-17), Susan Robinson, Greg Rankin, Gwen Hatcher, Ron Hatcher (23-13), Geoff Lynn, Scott Farnell, Robyn Kellow and Karen Chenney (19-13).
Division four played at home against Bruthen, scoring an excellent win of 70-14, rising to second on their ladder.
Lyn O’Brien, Jurgen Fichtner, Ralph Harding and Trevor Perry had a sensational 40-6 win, well supported by Jenny Gurney,
Janice Lynn, Des Edwards and Beryl Dyce, victors 30-8.
Both teams will play at home this weekend, division one against Howitt Park and division four against Bairnsdale Golf.
CLUB SINGLES
CHAMPIONSHIPS
The men’s and ladies single championships will start on Thursday and continue the
following week, spectators are very welcome to attend.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Again, the weather was not kind for bowls, with Thursday’s
social bowls subjected to a strong wind.
While accurate bowling was seriously impeded, the conditions did cause amusing results.
The format was meant to be two games of 10 ends however the second match was shortened to six due to the wind.
The winning triple for the afternoon was Kneebone (skip), Ron Hatcher and Robinson on 33 points after a countback against Rankin (skip), Fichtner and Annette Grmusa on 29.
Sunday’s social bowls was played on what was a cool overcast afternoon, with two games of 10 ends organised with only one team winning both their games, Rankin (skip), Trevor Hawkey and Fichtner.
