East Gippsland Shire Council is calling on the Mallacoota community to have its say on a proposal to officially name a local laneway “Muddie Lane.”
The laneway runs from the Betka Road and Maurice Avenue roundabout toward the recently upgraded Mudbrick Pavilion.
It then runs east to provide access to the local sports ground and the rear of several businesses on Maurice Avenue.
The choice follows the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria (2022) and has already received formal endorsement from the Mallacoota Halls and Recreation Reserve Committee of Management.
The community is now invited to provide a final round of feedback before the proposal is submitted for formal consideration by the Registrar of Geographic Names Victoria.
Submissions must be received by 5pm, Friday, May 22, 2026.
Residents can provide feedback in person by dropping a written submission at any East Gippsland Shire Council Customer Service Centre, or sending their feedback to PO Box 1618, Bairnsdale VIC 3875.
You can also send your thoughts to feedback@egipps.vic.gov.au.
For more information on the proposal or the naming process, residents are encouraged to visit the East Gippsland Shire Council website.
