The Bairnsdale Country Music Club once again treated members and visitors to a terrific afternoon of entertainment at the Bairnsdale RSL on Sunday, May 5.
A colourful mix of country music, folk music, and original compositions filled the room throughout the day.
Featured artists Laurel Calvert and ‘Alfie’ brought the sounds and spirit of Australia to the stage. The ever-versatile Alfie showcased his home-made percussion instruments and wove storytelling through the haunting tones of the didgeridoo, while Laurel captivated the audience with her guitar work and vocals.
Barbara and Ernie Saunders teamed up to perform a selection of favourites alongside some of Barb’s original songs, while the newly formed Gravel Roads String Band added more original material along with tracks from their latest CD release.
The afternoon was rounded off by the uniquely country voice of Danny Bowden, with resident band The Backroad Boys providing wonderful musical backing throughout the day.
The next club day will be held on Sunday, June 14 at the RSL, with music kicking off at 1pm.
Another terrific line-up has been locked in, featuring Phoebe & The Rockhounds, Louise Bowerman – who is bringing her big voice down from Bombala – legendary local artist Steve Mills, and well-known Newborough country vocalist and guitarist Bill Rowley.
Organisers are encouraging music lovers to make a day of it by enjoying lunch in the RSL bistro beforehand, then settling in for an afternoon of music, friendship, and good company. New faces are always welcome at the Bairnsdale Country Music Club.
